Dear all
Many thanks to all of you who have volunteered for this years Summer Fair – we are hopeful that the weather is going to make a significant change after half term and we will once again enjoy sunshine on the day!
We do need a few more people to help out and are looking for volunteers to help on:
• Organising the Name a Teddy
• Running the Sweets Jar and Wire Maze stall
• Manning the front and back gates
• Helping on the book stall and tuck shop

If you are able to help we’d love to hear from you!
We are also hoping to have a section where local traders can display their goods and would like to invite any parents who may have their own small business and wish to use this opportunity to let us know – we’ll then arrange for you to have a stall on the day.
In the meantime please look out for the raffle tickets which will be distributed after the holidays, and start collecting any old books, toys, bottles etc that you would be willing to donate to the school.
And if anyone wishes to donate a raffle prize they will be gratefully received.

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you

Monday 14th May 2012

Dear Parents

Re. Teaching Staff Arrangements for 2012/13

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of staffing changes for next year.
It is with mixed emotions that I let you know that two valuable members of staff will be leaving us at the end of this academic year to take up new positions at different schools. Firstly, we will be losing Miss Laura Vose who will be moving to take a promotion and additional responsibilities at Westmorland Primary School, Stockport. Any of you who have had children taught by Miss Vose, will know that her enthusiasm, kindness, dedication and outstanding teaching will be missed by the school. Miss Vose has made a significant contribution to the development of the school over the past four years and although we are sad that she is leaving, we wish her all the best for the future development of her career.

In addition, we will also be saying goodbye to Mr Tom Silver who has been teaching Year 3 this year as a newly qualified teacher. Mr Silver has made an outstanding start to his career at Tithe Barn and has impressed parents, colleagues, governors and children alike. Mr Silver will be moving to Woodley Primary School in September to gain additional. We wish Mr Silver well for the future and I look forward to seeing his career develop.

We will be conducting interviews to find a replacement for Miss Laura Vose next week and for Mr Tom Silver after the Whitsuntide holiday. I know that they both leave big shoes to fill but I am confident that we will be able to recruit two outstanding teachers to our unique school.

I will be confirming the staffing arrangement for Key Stage 2 upon the appointment of two new teachers but I am very happy to be able to confirm the staffing arrangements for Key Stage 1 next year.

Early Year and Key Stage 1

Reception Class Teacher – Mrs Angela Patton
Year 1 Class Teacher – Miss Chloe Meller and Miss Emma Warrington
Year 2 Class Teacher – Mrs Faye Bridgehouse

You will of course notice that Mrs Patton and Mrs Bridgehouse will be swapping classes. This is because Mrs Bridgehouse feels that it would be preferable for another teacher to take Reception when her daughter begins her education at Tithe Barn in September. I know that Mrs Patton and Mrs Bridgehouse will be working very closely together to ensure a smooth transition in to Reception and Year 2 for the children in their care.

Yours sincerely

Mr MJ Shaw
Headteacher

Wednesday 9th May 2012

Dear Parents

Re. Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
On Thursday 24th May, we will be holding our school celebrations for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
Crown Parade
Our first event on the day will be a crown parade. We would like the children to begin making crowns at home for the parade. We would be grateful if these could then be sent into school for Wednesday 23rd May. These will be judged on the Wednesday evening and the children will parade on the school grounds at 9.15am on Thursday 24th May. If you would like to join us for the parade, you may assemble on the playground at the beginning of the day. The children will then parade around the playground and prizes will be given for the winning crowns in each class.
Events
The children will be taking part in jubilee activities throughout the day and we request that the children come to school dressed in red, white and blue. In the afternoon, the school council will raise the Union Jack on the flag pole whilst the rest of the school sings the national anthem that we have been practising. There will then be a tree planting with the school’s eco-warriors, followed by a 1950’s style street party in the playground (weather permitting!) If you would like to help out with setting up the food and tables for the street party, please let your child’s class teacher know. From 2.15am, the children will be playing traditional board games in their classrooms and parents are welcome to join us. The children may bring traditional board games/activities to play in the classroom on that day. If you do join us to take part, please sign in at the entrance and you will then be free to take your child from school at 2.45pm. All children whose parents are not present for the games activities will stay in school until the end of the day.
Please see the reply slip at the foot of the letter for the food items we would like your child to bring into school and tick the boxes to let us know if you would be able to volunteer or if you wish to join us for the games activities.
I am sure that the event will be a memorable day for the children and we look forward to you joining us for the celebrations.
Yours sincerely

We would be grateful if your child could bring in the following items for the street party:

I would like to volunteer my help with setting up the street party

Friday morning- we woke up early, stripped our beds, packed out bags and had breakfast. Then we split up into groups and completed different tasks in Grasmere village. Firstly, one group were given a map and had to navigate Miss Vose to Grasmere lake and the Wordsworth garden , before heading back to the youth hostel. The other group walked round Grasmere and collected data about the main uses if buildings and the resources buildings are made from. We did a bit if shopping, went to the world famous ginger bread shop and headed back to the hostel. At the hostel we created ‘messy maps’ of Grasmere.
