Homework – Activities for Home
As part of our work on Addition we’ve asked the children to challenge their parents with these interactive maths games, starting with the addition of single digit numbers to double digit (TU + U) Â then working up to double digit to double digit numbers (TU+TU).

Stratergies to look out for and push -
(TU+U) Counting on – Starting with the biggest number and counting on, you could even use this number square on a seperate window to help..

(TU+U) Adding to the nearest 10 then adding what’s left -
57 + 6 – add 3 from the 6 to get to 60 then add the 3 thats left to get 63…
(TU+TU) Borrowing to allow rounding up to the nearest 10 -
53 + 49Â – you could borrow 1 from 53 (making it 52) to make 49 into 50, then add 50 to 52 to make 102.
(TU+TU) – Splitting the Tens and Units (when the units add up to less than 10)
54 +23 – Take the units and add them together 4+3=7 then take the tens and add them together 50+20=70 (please stress that they are 50+20 not 5+2) then add the tens and units together (70+7=77)
There are many more stratergies that the children will use, talk to them to get an understanding of what they use and how they work things out, and if they have a stratergy they would like to share, why not send it in the comments section of the blog?!
Good Luck!
10K – Done and Dusted!
Mr Jones and Mr Tonge successfully completed the 10k course at Tatton Park on Sunday and would like to thank all those who made a donation to take our total past the £200 mark we’d set for Cancer Research.

The children decided in assembly on Friday that the person who came second out of the two of us would have to buy the other one lunch… and with only less than 35 seconds separating us it was very close!
Why not leave a comment about who you thought won… and you’ll find out in assembly on Monday and remember, if you’d still like to make a donation, you can do so until the end of next week!!
