Features of Instructional Writing
Important things to remember when writing instructions:Â
- Make sure to use imperatives (bossy verbs) when telling someone what to do       e.g. cut, roll, paste, slice
- Instructions must be written in order/sequence so that people will know what they have to do
- Use steps, numbers or bullet points at the start of each sentence to show this order e.g. step 1, step 2, step 3 / a , b, c / 1, 2.3 or bullet points (*)
- Always go on to a new line when telling someone the next thing they have to do
- Join the steps/order of events together by using time connectives e.g. firstly, secondly, next, then, finally, after, finally
- When you are telling somebody how to do something, make sure you explain to them why!

New Eco-code
One of the first tasks for the new Eco-Warriors this year, has been to come up with a new Eco-code for the school. They did a whole school assembly at the beginning of term to let the children know of their plan and to ask for their thoughts and ideas on how we could update and improve our exisiting one. The Eco-warriors and Mrs Patton then came up with six new codes which, after much deliberation, they mananged to whittle down to two. The whole school then voted on the one they felt most reflected the schools commitment to improving its environmental performance. This is the Eco-code the children have chosen.

Myths with Miss Stapleton – Just a little help…
Here are a few slides from me that we’ll look at in class on Monday to help us pull all the great work we’ve done into a final piece by Tuesday.
Can you see what you might need to include in yours to make it even better?
Remember we’ll be doing some artwork on Monday afternoon so get your thinking caps on for what exactly you’re going to paint! See you on Monday morning, bright and early and ready to work hard!
