Learning Spanish
We have been lucky enough to have a specialist spanish speaker come into our school and help Year 5 learn some basic spanish phrases last week and we will progress every week with some focused work, this week focusing on colours.
Why not look at this slideshow to get a headstart before tomorrows lesson (We’ll put some sound clips of the children pronouncing the words, if nothing else just to help Mr Jones!!)
Learn what each of the colours sound like with these clips matching the sound to the colour..

Non-Narrative Writing – Airships
This week we’ll be looking at note taking, recounts and instructions for our non-narrative side of writing. We’ll be using Airships or Zeppelins as our theme and will hopefully be able to integrate ICT into the weeks work to show on the Year 5 website

The children will be working from this flash based resource below, which they can look at at home to get a few ideas and reassure themselves with during the week, why not go through it with them to see what they understand?
This website gives a good outline to what zeppelins were and how they were used.

These videos give the children the idea of the hindleberg disaster.
They will be able to use them to recount the events in a podcast / radio broadcast…
I hope you enjoy the weeks work to come… why not leave a comment to let Year 5 know what you think?
What happens in the Year 3 Pyramid?
During this half term the children will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians. As you may have noticed a Pyramid has appeared in the Year 3 classroom. Once you go inside you enter the world of the Ancient Egyptians and can take part in writing in Hieroglyphics, making people into mummies and trying to create a pyramid from Clixi. Here are a few shots of the children enjoying these activities. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as they enjoyed being involved in them!

Why not have a go at this fun maths game that tests your number bonds?
Learning to play the Fife in Year 3
Year 3 are incredibly fortunate to be learning how to play the Fife. Every Wednesday afternoon the children spend half an hour learning how to hold the fife correcly and how to make a sound. This is very tricky! Over the course of the Year, we will be learning different songs which will culminate in an end of year performance for all to see. Here are a few snap shots of them in action.

Understanding Negative Numbers
We’ll be looking at negative numbers, their effect on counting back and forward, and what happens when you add or subtract negative numbers on a number line. Â As a bit of a practice, you can play this game on the hardest setting to test yourself. Can you see how it works?
