7x Times Tables – Connect Four
Written By Dorothy
6 people out of Year 5 went out with Julie to play connect four and and learn are 7 times tables at the same time. Lowri and I were in partners and in our game we didn’t get an proper winner because 7x times tables was both of our favorite times tables. In this game we kept answering the questions right so what we had to do was put a time limit on the questions so we started at 5 seconds, then it went to 4 seconds and finally we ended up at 3 seconds. We carried on answering the questions right, so Julie said we had to change the rules so for the next question we used our eights. The winner was Lowri (just).

babette =4/5Â & issy=5/5
we played a game called four in a line. the rules were, we were in pairs and player 1 asked player 2 a question in the 7 times table and if they got the question right they got put a piece in the board. It was a very fun way to practice the 7Â times table. Maya was unsure about it at first but by the end she was answering all of the questions.
Molly= 10/10 & Maya= 10/10
Noughts and Crosses
The spelling group seemed to have some great fun today, while playing a spelling test version of noughts and crosses.
They all got into pairs and had to spell a word correctly before being able to place a marker on the board.
Iona won both her games against Joe, was this good tatics at placing her crosses on the board or was this that she had been practicing her spellings this week?
Lewis played against Julie – Lewis won one game and the other was a draw…ooo it was close!
Both Max and Babette each won a game each – who can be declared the winner next time?
Seth and Eleanor battled against each other and the result was a draw and a win to Eleanor – lets go for a win next time Seth
Well done to Iona, Lewis, Babette and Eleanor who got all their spellings correct and 2 leaf points each!
Life Cycles – Pollination and Seed Dispersal
The videos below show the different ways that seeds are created and then ‘dispersed’ (moved from one place to another..)
This video shows the creation of a seed through pollination
This one shows how some flowering plants create fruits with seeds inside them…Â
This one shows the different ways that the seeds are dispersed
From the 2 videos, what have you remembered or learnt about the life cycles of flowering plants?
Why not let me know with a good comment below?
Noughts and Crosses spelling game – 30th March 09
This week we are going to play the ‘noughts and crosses’ game to test each other on our spellings. Who has been practising this week????
What is the aim?
To practice our spellings using the spelling pattern LE;
Â
To practice the technique of “Say the word, Look at the word, Cover the word, Write the word, Check if you are rightâ€
Â
What do we need
A base board marked out as a 3×3 grid
Nought and crosses cards/markers
Blank cards (to write our spellings on)
Paper/Pencils
Â
How do we play?
·        Set out the baseboard and decide who will be noughts and who will be crosses
·        Choose 6 words out of this weeks spelling list (of 10 words)Â
·        The two players swop cards
·        Player 1 chooses a word from Player 2’s set of spellings, says the word, shows it to Player 2 for 5 seconds and the covers it up.
·        Player 2 must then write the word.
·        If the word is spelt correctly then they can place their marker on the baseboard
·        It is now players 2’s turn to choose a word from players 1’s list etc………………..
·        Play on until someone gets 3 in a row.
