Times tables push!
Year 5 will be focusing on their times tables knowledge with prizes for those who do well in their activities and meet their challenges over the week. Why not look around our site for times tables games and activities and leave comments on what works for you!
Composting at Tithe Barn
At our last meeting the Eco-warriors decided that although we already recycle lots at Tithe Barn, (paper, stamps, ink cartridges, mobile phones and plastic bags), there was still more we could do. As a result we have decided to recycle cardboard. We have had a meeting with a representitive from the waste department at the town hall and are now awaiting a new cardboard bin for outside. The eco-warriors will also be looking into buying some new collection bins for the areas outside each classroom. We will also be composting kitchen and garden waste to do our bit for the environment whilst also helping our allotment.
Potato Competition update.
Way back in March the Eco-warriors entered a potato growing competition run by the Potato Council. The first stage of the growing process was Chitting (placing seeds on windowsill to allow the sprouts to harden). After 2 weeks the seeds were ready to be planted and the eco-warriors had lots of fun getting the grow bags ready.
The grow bags were placed on the allotment and then the wait began….On the 22nd of July the potatoes were ready. The Eco-warriors couldn’t wait to cut open the bags and see what had happened. They were shocked to see how many potatoes had grown in each bag from just 1 seed!  They washed and weighed their crop – it weighed in at 1kg 835g.
They have sent off their results to the potato council and will let you know if their crop of Vales Emerald potatoes were heavy enough to win.  Fingers crossed!
Reading in Reception
The Reception children are making excellent progress with their reading, as you will have noticed from the ‘tricky’ words and decodable captions they have been bringing home to read!
At school we have been making up sentences with some of our ‘tricky’ words and reading them together. Click on the thumbnails below, and your child will be able to practise this reading at home too.
Maybe the children can make up their own sentence for one of the ‘tricky’ words and either bring it into school or post it in the comments for this item.
And don’t forget, when we read together at school we salute for a capital letter and clap for a full stop. It makes for very active reading
Harry says thank you!
Thank you for your lovely card Year 5, it really made me smile and proud of you all. It looks fantastic and although Harry may be too small to understand it, Emma keeps pointing at it and making Monkey noises and then saying ‘Harrr-yy’ to the pictures on the back!
It’s been lovely having the last few days with them but I’m really looking forward to coming back into work and having a superb last few weeks with my class! Keep up the good work and I’ll see you all again soon!
