Year 5 – Activity Suggestions…
As a reward for working so hard with the brass and generally in class, I’d like to spend an afternoon or two doing activities that YOU would like to do. Obviously we can’t get the whole class to ride in hot air balloons or play against premiership footballers but I’m sure that you can come up with some fantastic ideas for things to do in school. Once we have a few shortlisted we will have a vote and then do the activities.
So, what would YOU like to do?
Tithe Barn’s 40th Birthday Celebrations
On Thursday the 1st of July we will be celebrating our 40th birthday. During the day we will be having a lot of fun including free ice cream from the ice cream van, staff against the children sporting events, lots of birthday cakes and releasing chinese paper lanterns into the sky. In celebration of this event we have had t-shirts printed which will go on sale on wednesday at a cost of £5. Any profit made from the sale will be used to pay for the celebrations and to subsidise the cost of coaches for class trips next year.
It would be fantastic if each child could purchase one, and if they do they can wear it for the rest of the week and then at the summer fair on Sunday.
Hopefully we’ll get a little press covarage of our event in the coming week, which photo do you think we should send to the papers?

Laurel Lane Singers concert success
On Tuesday 22 June Laurel Lane Singers performed at the annual concert of the Maia Singers and Stockport Youth Choir. They were brilliant! We were really pleased to see Mr and Mrs Buckley and the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Hazel Lees in the audience with a crowd of other music lovers. We enjoyed an evening of wonderful choral singing, finishing up with all three choirs together singing “Swing Down Chariot” - without ever practising it all together. The Mayor presented long service awards and we discovered one member of the Maia Singers who has been there for 50 years.
Year 5 Homework!
The print server went down after lunch on Friday, so the children didn’t get their usual homework sheet.
They were however told what their homework was – I’d like them to write a match report on the England game on Sunday, (or any other match if they can’t see that one) which can be as brief or as detailed as they want… remembering that it’s about the quality of writing not the quantity!
I’m looking for
- A report that shows some excitement / disappointment (hopefully excitement and joy!)
- Good use of punctuation
Spellings for Thursday (which will help with the writing)
skill excitement twisting turning shooting control fabulous
drive determination spectacular dribble sharp urgently fantastic
All homework due by Thursday please
