Newsletter: 15.01.16

Dear Parents and Carers

If I have not already done so in person, may I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year on behalf of the staff and governors.

The children have been settling back into the school routines very well after the Christmas holiday every day; impressing their teachers greatly by the amount and quality of their work. The children should really feel proud of how well they have settled back into school and of the amazing work that they are doing.

In the newsletter, you will find some of the key dates for this term.

My best wishes for the weekend

Yours sincerely

 Mr MJ Shaw

Headteacher

Collection from School

We have recently had quite a number of children who have not been collected from school until a considerable amount of time has passed after the end of the school day. Just to remind you, the collection times for the end of the school day are:

Reception/Key Stage 1: 15:10

Key Stage 2: 15:15

School Car Park

The school car park is for staff and deliveries only unless you have permission to use the disabled bay. We would be grateful if parents and carers did not use the car park, as some staff cars have recently been damaged by visiting vehicles.

Leave of Absence

If you are requesting Leave of Absence during term time for your child, please could you ensure where possible that you provide the school with at least four weeks’ notice by completing a form from the school office. This does not apply in a small amount of circumstances, such as for children attending independent school examinations as it is not always possible to obtain such advance notice.

E-Safety Consent Forms

We are still awaiting some e-safety consent forms to be returned to school. If you have not already done so, please can you talk through the e-safety rules with your son/daughter, sign the forms and return them to school by Friday.

Local Delivery!

We are very pleased to announce that Mrs Gholinia had a baby girl on Friday 8th January. Josephine Gholinia was born weighing a very healthy 6lb 8oz and both baby and mum are doing very well. Our congratulations go to Mr and Mrs Gholinia.

Spelling Bee

At the end of term, the children in Years 3-6 will be taking part in a spelling bee competition as part of our drive to raise the profile of spelling. In addition, today and on Monday, staff will be taking part in a mind-blowingly difficult test in front of the children. Best wishes to Mrs Babinska, Mrs Bridgehouse, Mrs Fraser, Mr Shaw and Mr Donaldson who are taking part in today’s round. We will let you know how they get on.

Reducing Sugar

With this new year, we are taking the opportunity to reduce our sugar intake. We all know the dangers of too much sugar from dental decay to diabetes. Therefore, we would like to encourage parents and carers not to bring in sweets on their children’s birthdays but if you do want to bring in a gift for the children, it would be great to bring in something creative or practical. An example of this was seen in Year 1 with some fabulous bubble blowers.

Lacrosse Team

Last week, our lacrosse teams travelled to Reddish Vale School for the commencement of the Stockport Lacrosse Tournament. A team of eight children took part in the competition against seven other teams. Our team played brilliantly and showed a very high level of skill, coming third overall. Next month, we will travel to Reddish again for the open final of the wider Stockport competition. Congratulations to lacrosse player of the tournament, George Smith, who also received a special commendation for determination.
