Dear Parents and Carers
What a difference a week makes; last week we had heavy snow falling at Tithe Barn yet today is a true Spring day!
We had a wonderful World Book Day and the children in school enjoyed the experience tremendously with wonderful character costumes and excellent book sharing. Well done everyone for taking part. The preparations in our outdoor forest zone are well underway and today, the children in Year 6 have been taking part in our annual Cabbage Science workshop in readiness for next week’s British Science Week.
Well done to Alex and Laurel Lane for working so hard towards their performances at the Heaton Music Festival and to our Strings Ensemble for winning yet more trophies!
Have a wonderful weekend.

New Headteacher Recruitment
Dear Parents and Carers
We wanted to say thank you to all the staff, children and parents who have provided feedback, ideas and thoughts on the new headteacher recruitment. The input has been invaluable in shaping the advert, person specification and the headteacher application pack. The advert for our new headteacher was posted last week and we will be shortlisting the end of March for the selection day and interviews after Easter. We will keep you updated on progress.
Karen Varty and Trudy Mclindon
Co Chairs of Governors
This time of year abounds with sickness bugs and illness; we have had many children off school recently due to them. We would like to thank parents for keeping ill children off from school. At school, we are working hard to encourage the children to wash their hands regularly and we are also using hand sanitiser before we eat our lunch. If you could help us by reinforcing this message at home, we will be grateful but the germs will not!

Safeguarding – Play Equipment
Please can we remind parents and carers that the children must not use any of the school play equipment before or after school. Once children have been released from the classroom or from an extra-curricular activity, they become the responsibility of the parent or carer who is collecting them. They should therefore be fully supervised by parents/carers at these time and the equipment must not be used. This includes equipment in the Reception outdoor classroom and play equipment around the field and on the playground.
We do appreciate that most parents, carers and children understand these rules but recently, we have had to remind a number of people.
Safeguarding – Dogs on the Playground
It has been reported to school that a dog has been coming onto the school playground at drop-off and collection times. We would like to remind parents and carers that dogs are not allowed on the school grounds.
Lucas Garrity – Manchester 10k
On 22nd May, some members of our school community will be running the Manchester 10k in memory of Lucas. If anyone would like to join our super parents, they will be very welcome. The focus is on fun and memories, so it doesn’t matter how fast (or not) you are! It is always a great event with a fantastic atmosphere.
If you are interested, please let Caroline Jones know and telephone 07966 495107.
Many thanks also to all the parents and carers who went shopping in Tesco stores to vote for Lucas’ garden. Preparations are going very well – if you would like to view the design on You Tube, please follow the link:
Cake Sale for Kidneys
There will be a cake sale on the playground after school on Tuesday 22nd March. This sale is in aid of Kidneys for Life. For further information, please visit:
Children in Need
The children at Tithe Barn raised a magnificent £213.35 for the BBC Children in Need Appeal. Well done everyone!
Just to remind you all that Parents’ Meetings will be taking place next week. If you haven’t yet made an appointment, please do so as soon as possible.
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 children who took part in the Rotary’s annual Swimathon at Stockport Grammar last Saturday. There was a tremendous effort from both years, with the Year 6 team swimming the most lengths of any school group. Well done everyone for making a difference to people locally.
Tag-Rugby League Tournament
A big congratulations to our Tag-Rugby team who competed in the Stockport Schools’ Tag-Rugby Final at Heaton Moor Rugby Club. The team won all three pool games, winning 6:1 against Cale Green, 7:4 against Bradshaw Hall and 5:2 against Hazel Grove. They then progressed to the semi- final as the highest placed team, beating Pownall Green 5:3. In the final, they faced Norris Bank whom they beat in the first round before Christmas. Norris Bank came back from 3:2 down to equalise in the final seconds of normal time and then went on to win by golden try in extra time. Both teams go through to the Greater Manchester Winter Games with the finals being held on Tuesday. Good luck to our Tithe Barn Sharks!
