Tithe Barn Times 21st September 2018

Autumn is on its way

We have had another wonderful week at school, and the children are all working hard and challenging themselves in their learning. They have all been busy learning some lovely songs in preparation for our Harvest Festival on the 10th October at 9.15 am. I do hope you will join us.

Once again we will be collecting donations for The Wellspring in Stockport. They have sent us a wish list of much needed items this year including; tinned meats, soups, potatoes, fruits, pie fillings, pickles, sugar, shower gel and liquid soap, coffee, cordial and mayonnaise.

If you would like to bring any items to school please do so from Monday 8th October onwards.

Vision for Tithe Barn

We have spent the last 12 months reviewing our school vision with our children, staff and governors. We would like to share our ideas with parents and gather your opinions. We would like to invite you to a ‘Vision Evening’ on Tuesday 25th September at 6.30pm. I look forward to seeing you then.

AVIVA

Following on for our successful bid for new computers from Aviva two years ago, we have decided to put another bid in to support the development of our playground. To assist us in this process we are again looking for a financial advisor to submit our application. If you know of anyone who would be able to support us with this please contact me.

We will be visited by the Book People’s Book Bus on Friday 19th October. The bus will contain a wide array of books at discounted prices for parents to buy. In addition to this the school will receive 15% commission in free books. If you wish to visit the bus it will be in the school car park between 8.30 am and 4 pm

Year 1 Trip to the Hat Works

On Tuesday 11th September Year 1 went to visit The Hat Works in Stockport. They had a fantastic trip and learnt all about hats and how they were made out of felt. The children had the opportunity to make their own felt which was very tricky!

Pupil Voice
As practically every single decision we take in school will ultimately affect one group of people (the children), we believe that it’s vital that they have a voice in the decision making and that their voice is heard. Tithe Barn’s school council aims to be one way of doing this. Classes from Y2 to Y6 hold annual elections to vote for a girl and boy who will best represent their class.
Any child who is interested in standing for the position of school councilor is asked to think carefully about how they can effectively represent their class and how they can contribute to developing their school. The children will be asked to share their ideas with their classmates prior to the confidential elections taking place next week. I will let you know the outcomes of the elections in the next newsletter.

Jeans for Genes Day
Friday 21st September is Jeans for Genes Day and this year we will be having a sponsored penalty shoot out to raise money for the charity and school fund. Further details will be sent out shortly. If you would like to find out more about the charity, please visit www.jeansforgenes.org.

Medical Needs
It is very important that you let us know if your child has a particular medical need such as asthma or allergies. If your child needs to take medicine whilst in school, please speak to our office staff. You will need to complete a form to enable us to administer medication which must be given to school in a clearly labelled pharmacist’s packet or container with your child’ name, dosage and date printed on it.
