Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to school for the Summer Term. It doesn’t seem so long ago that the school year was starting and now we are in our final term. I have been delighted to see the children developing so much this year in all our classes, with the children in Year 2 and 6 really rising to the challenges of the new curriculum and assessment arrangements.
In this newsletter, you will find key dates for this term and some of the exciting and enjoyable activities that our Friends of Tithe Barn have arranged.
Have an enjoyable weekend.
Mr MJ Shaw
School starts at 0850. We are still experiencing a number of late arrivals to school and whilst we appreciate all the delays that can occur at the beginning of the day, we ask that parents/carers do all that they can to ensure that children are not late to school so that they do not start the day upset and are not missing out on their education.
Tucassi On-line Payments
As you will know, the school operates an on-line payments system and we encourage all parents/carers to use this service. When using the payment system, we will be grateful if you could try to avoid using credit cards and business charge cards as they incur a significantly higher charge to the school. We do understand that in some circumstances this is not possible but we will benefit from the increased use of debit cards where possible.
We would like to remind parents that when parking near the school, to be mindful of our local residents and the safety of pedestrians and other road users. Where possible, please try to walk to school.
Golden University – University of Cheerful, Confident Achievers!
Last week, we introduced a new Friday afternoon regimen for the children whereby they sign up for different activities that they can take part in which they wouldn’t normally be doing during class lessons. This is a reward for the children as well as to develop their skills in different areas such as cooking, sports, outdoor activities and mindfulness.
We will be hosting a Big Brekkie on 20th May from 0800 jointly with the United Church for Christian Aid Week. If you would like to prepare any breakfast treats and help with the event, please let Mr Shaw know.
Increasingly, we are using our Teachers2Parents service to email you information and letters rather than printing off copies. If you do not receive emails from school but would like to, please provide Mrs Barrett with your email address.
Safety and Wellbeing Questionnaire
You may remember receiving a questionnaire in November about safety and wellbeing. Attached to the newsletter is a safeguarding newsletter from Mr Shaw and Mr Steve Inch (Safeguarding Governor) to feed back on the information received from the questionnaire. Governors and staff have been working hard to address any issues of concern, so later in the term we will be sending out an update in the form of ‘you said….we did…’
Friends of Tithe Barn (FOTB) – our PTA
FOTB PTA has new Co-Chairs at the helm – Alison Kellett (mum of Tom and Sophie) and Freya Morton (Tom and Hamish) and a new Treasurer – Amy Law (mum of Stan, Elsie and Fred).
Hello! We are keen to continue building on the great work of our wonderful FOTB and raise lots of money to help school buy great resources to benefit all of our kids. Importantly, we really want to ensure everybody sees the results of their fundraising efforts and understands where the money raised is being spent.
We’ve been working with Mr. Shaw and school governors to set some fundraising priorities. Our next target is to raise £800 to get the new Forest Zone up and running during this Summer Term.
£2 a go – pick your country and cheer them on in Eurovision for the chance to win! 1st place wins £20, 2nd place £10, 3rd place £5. Countries on sale Friday and Monday morning in the playground, after school on Friday.
Family Bingo was such a great success last year we hope to run this again on Friday 20th May. This is a provisional date to be confirmed asap.
The Summer Fair is always a great event but putting it on is a mammoth task and we need to start planning soon. If you usually take the lead on a stall and are happy to do so again this year please let us know. If you have never helped out before but are keen to start please come along to one of our planning meetings. We realise it’s not always easy for people to attend in the evenings so this time we’re hoping a coffee morning might attract some more recruits!? There’ll still be the evening meeting for the regulars who prefer a glass of wine to help with the cerebral flow.
Join our Facebook group (Parents and Friends of Tithe Barn School PTA) to stay up to date with dates and info on ways you can help. Alternatively, get in touch by email or grab us in the playground.
