Tithe Barn Times 24th March 2017

School Dinners

Following extensive consultation with parents, children, governors and staff we have made the decision to seek an alternative provider for our school dinners.

Following a thorough review of alternative providers we have decided to go ahead with Dolce school dinners. Myself, Miss D Vose and a parent governor Laura Whillans visited a local school to taste their dinners and we were all extremely impressed.

Examples of their menus can be found at www.dolce.co.uk and they operate an on-line ordering system along with a payment system using direct debit. One of the many benefits of this company is the ability for parents to select school dinners for their child in advance, to see the nutrition contents and also to have great flexibility. Parents can choose to give their school dinner when it is convenient for them. Children are also able to select their choice for dinner at home or at school.

We will also have the facility in the future to invite parents’ to join us for school dinners and partake in a lunch with their child. We are very excited about our new provider and will provide further details next half term.

Have a lovely weekend.

This year we will be holding an Eggstravaganza in school on Friday 31st March 2017. The aim is to raise money for the children’s chosen charity; for school and to have some fun!
The junior children will be running stalls in small groups, whilst the infant children will run a stall or activity as a class.

We will also be holding a decorated egg competition; we will be looking for entries where we can see how independent the children have been in their creations! A secret judge will be awarding prizes in the following categories:

A character from a children’s book or a film
A famous sports personality

Challenging yourself – growthmindset in action

Children in Year 4 can bring their entries to school on Wednesday 29th and everyone else who wishes to enter can bring the entries in on Friday 31st.

Children do not need to bring large amounts of money into school, each stall will cost 10p-20p a turn and we would appreciate it if the children brought change.    We are looking forward to a successful day and thank you for your support.

Science Week

Last week saw the children exploring a range of exciting activities as Science was brought to life at Tithe Barn. From exploring space with the Tim Peake Project, workshops from Mad Science, Year 4 visited the lab at Priestnall and a wide range of activities led by our amazing parental volunteers.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Patton for organising the week and all our parents who gave up their time to share their work and Science with the children. If you would like to see further photographs from our adventures please visit our twitter account or the FOTB Facebook page.

FOTB Bingo

Thank you to everyone who attended the fantastic FOTB Bingo night. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying themselves.

It was a great evening with everyone having lots of fun and raising over £500 for school. I would like to say a huge thank to everyone who helped organise the event, to the volunteers in the kitchen, the people working behind the scenes and Hayley who ensured that the evening ran smoothly.

The Jungle Book

On Tuesday 21st March we had a visit from a touring theatre company who performed The Jungle Book. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it was great to see the story brought to life in our hall.
The children are now completing further learning based around the story.

Google Chrome Books

As part of our continued development of IT at Tithe Barn, our next phase is the purchase of a class set of Google Chrome Books. These will be used to facilitate the children’s learning across the curriculum and are extremely flexible devices. They have touch operated screens as well as keyboards.

Following the recent newsletter, a local company has kindly offered to sponsor three Chrome Books, which is fantastic news and we are extremely grateful.

Each Chrome book costs approximately £259 and to assist in their purchase we are continuing to seek sponsorship from local businesses. If you know of a local business who would be willing to sponsor a Chrome Book or you work for a company that would like to please can you send the contact details to:

Thank you for your support with this matter.
