As the summer term is drawing to a close, I have been reflecting on all the different things we have done throughout the year. It has been a fantastic year and it has been a privilege to be the head-teacher of such a wonderful school.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you; thanks to all of the staff for their hard work and support this year, the governors, who work tirelessly to support the school, the children for working hard and being a pleasure to teach and to the parents for being so supportive and working in an effective pa
rtnership with the school.
I am looking forward to September and all our exciting plans but in the meantime I hope you all have a lovely summer break.
On Tuesday 23rd July Mr Blackburn arranged a fantastic morning to raise funds for Kiera Byland to travel to the next INAS Games in Brisbane. Kiera is a young woman with a medical diagnosis of Rubinstein Taybi syndrome, Dyspraxia and autism traits. She is a double gold medal winner. It was a fantastic day, Kiera ran balance bike workshops with the younger children and the children also participated in a sponsored cycle around the field.
I would like to thank Mr Blackburn for organising such a successful day, along with Mr Wych and to our parents and school community for supporting this great event. We look forward to Kiera visiting school again in September.
4th September- School reopens for all children
20th September- Jeans for Genes Day
21st September- FOTB Family Festival (4pm -7pm)
Over the Summer holidays will see some changes to Mauldeth Road. Stockport Council will be relocating the bus stop, installing new street lighting and a puffin crossing.
The crossing will be operational from September and will enable our children and local residents to safely cross the road at any time. At our request, Stockport Council has agreed that Bob will remain at the crossing for half a term to teach the children how to use it safely.
Following this, Bob is being relocated in the local area and we will continue to ensure he is part of a school community. We are currently planning a special event in Bob’s honour for the Autumn term.
Information regarding the works from Stockport Council-
The improvement works are due to commence from Sunday 28/07/19 and will last for approximately 6 weeks. The construction works will be undertaken by George Cox & Son’s. The anticipated operational working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm. Traffic management measures will be in place to maintain safe passage for pedestrians throughout the works. Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction so as not to disrupt traffic flows. A road closure will be applied on Sunday 28/7/19 to allow the contractor to remove the existing refuge safely.
A Fond Farewell
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that two members of staff will be leaving us at the end of term. Miss Edwards (TA in Year 1) is moving to Durham to become an Assistant Psychologists.
Miss Heap (Year 1) will also be leaving us this year to take up a teaching post at Bridge Hall. Miss Heap has found a job that enables her to develop her specialism of PE across a whole school and she is very excited about this opportunity.
We would like to wish both the ladies all the best for the future and thank them for all their hard work.
On Saturday 14th July FOTB organised an amazing Summer Fair. We were particularly proud of our budding entrepreneurs Annie and Iqra from Year 5 who made their own pompoms and origami animals. The fair raised a fantastic £2765.96!
Last week we had a visit from Stockport Library who came in to school to share this year’s exciting reading challenge.
This year’s theme is Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. The children have to read six books over the summer holidays to complete the challenge. Along the way the children will receive exciting rewards and very smelly stickers. This is a fantastic opportunity and I hope that many of our children will participate and visit their local library.
Thank you for your all support.
