Tithe Barn Times 4th May 2020

Thank You

Dear Parents and children,

Thank you for your continued support at this difficult time, it is really important that we all work together to support each other. We have continued to develop our home school learning provision, it now includes links to relevant video clips that enable the children to watch explanations of new concepts, follow up activities and suggestions on how your child can challenge themselves further in their learning. Following feedback from parents we are also providing a weekly overview to help parents plan out the home learning, we hope that you are finding it useful.

The key message for all families is to do what you can at the pace that works for your children and your family. We have added lots of work so children that want to do more can, but work at the pace that’s right for your child. Please remember that this is just a guide and it is up to individual families to decide how and what they can do best at home during this difficult time. Once the children return to school, we will ensure that they achieve their true potential.

Our staff have continued to work incredibly hard to ensure work is uploaded to E-schools and Google classrooms (children in Years 3-6) for our children, which we know so many of you have found useful and interesting. Thank you ever so much for the positive feedback and the suggestions you have made. We are continuing to develop and enhance our provision this term.

We are aware of the challenges that all our families are under and we are trying to support our children and parents at home by providing learning opportunities. However, we cannot recreate Tithe Barn at home and I also need to be mindful that my hardworking team all have their own families and commitments and their own challenges at the moment. A small number of parents have made requests for ‘virtual lessons’ or ‘virtual 1:1 sessions’ with the teacher for their child. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this for a number of reasons, including Safeguarding and it is also against the current guidelines that we have to adhere to.

Please rest assured that once we are able to re-open, we will do everything that we can to ensure that every child makes the progress that they should and achieves their true potential.

Thank you for your continued support. Hoping you and your families are staying safe and well.

Key Dates

Tuesday 5th May- Online assembly available

Google Classrooms

The children in Year 3-6 have access to Google Classroom and they have previously had lessons on how to use the different tools on it. Currently this is our key mean of providing a virtual learning environment.

We have noticed that some children are not always using it to its best effect. Every time a child comments in the Google Classroom a number of staff receive their comment as our method of monitoring it. As you can imagine our inboxes have been rather full recently and this has made it difficult for other children to follow the thread of learning that is being discussed. Therefore, we are introducing some new guidelines for all children to ensure that we are able to use it effectively.

Guidelines for Google Classrooms

  1. Talk about your learning.
  2. Respond to the tasks set by your teacher
  3. Write in full sentences with capital letters and correct punctuation.
  4. Be polite and show good manners.
  5. Ask questions about your learning
  6. Log on every school day.

Teachers will also be publishing when they will be available to discuss the children’s learning on the platform as well.

Weekly Assembly

I hope you are enjoying our weekly assembly, if you have missed it. The films are available on our E-schools platform.

Thank you to the children who have shared their challenges this week, it has been lovely to hear from you. If you would like to share yours please do, it definitely makes me smile when I hear from you all.

Child Care for Key Workers

Please can I politely remind anyone needed to access our child care provision for key workers to ensure that they book their child a place using our parents’ evening booking system prior to bringing their child. The booking system closes the day before so if you need urgent childcare at the last minute please email headteacher@tithebarn.stockport.sch.uk

Thank you for your support with this matter.

Well Being

We wanted to share a few activities that will help your child at this difficult time. They are useful ways of explaining what coronavirus is

The link below explains what the coronavirus is using playmobile.

Downloadable Book

Axel Scheffler has illustrated a digital book for primary school age children, free for anyone to read on screen or print out, about the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it.
