Laurel Lane Choir 2nd March 2019

A huge well done to Laural Lane Choir and Alex. They sang brilliantly today and came second in the Music Festival competition, narrowly missing 1st Place by one point.

Their performance of Can You Hear Me? was so beautiful, it brought the audience to tears. Their second song—Doh a Deer—then made everyone smile.

A wonderful performance well done everyone and special thanks to Alex!!

Dear Parents and Carers

Easter is here and the signs of Spring are heralding the arrival of our holidays. This week in school, we have been very fortunate to share some wonderful experiences. Year 4 went to Tattenhall, Chester on Monday for our first residential trip there, where they concentrated on willow weaving, team games and map work. They were a real credit to the school and to their parents, with the staff at the centre remarking on their high standards of behaviour and work. They were also impressed by our impromptu piano recital during dinner and the children’s amazing appetites!

Yesterday, our strings ensemble performed some excellent French music whilst the rest of the school sang along under the tutelage of our fabulous French teacher, Mademoiselle Llaneza and Pia Oliver. Thank you to the children and adults for their hard work and to Carolyn Tregaskis who practised the music with her strings group.

This morning, we had a very enjoyable and informative Year 3 Egyptian Exhibition for parents where the children were able to show all the amazing work that they have been doing in their History lessons – well done to Year 3 and Mrs Gholinia.

Finally, Year 2 children were able to showcase their amazing efforts in music to mums and dads by performing ‘Hot Cross Buns’ on their instruments. In fact, it was so good and so well attended, that they had to perform twice just to make sure that everyone got to hear their great performance. Thank you Year 2 and Mr Donaldson.

May I take this opportunity of wishing you a very happy and peaceful Easter.

 Yours sincerely

 Mr MJ Shaw

 Friends of Tithe Barn

There will be an informal Friends of Tithe Barn meeting on Tuesday the 28th April at the Kro bar. If you are willing to help or lead an event in the summer term, you are warmly invited to attend.

Please can we say a huge thank you for the hard work to raise much needed funds for our school.

Michelle Sinclair and her team created a wonderful Mother’s Day gifts stall. Michelle worked really hard to create some beautiful mothers’ days flowers and gifts and raised over £250 marvellous work –  thank you so much. Another big thank you to Hayley Townley and her team for the brilliant Bingo night!!   We had an amazing event with over 100 happy bingo players, it was a fabulous family night and raised over £450.

Thank you to everyone who helped and supported these two fundraisers it really makes a difference. Funds will be spent on new cookery equipment and provisions, St John’s ambulance first aid training for the kids, new art supplies and seeds for the allotment, plus lots more.
If you would like to organise a school fundraiser we are always looking for new ideas and help.

If your child is going home with someone other that who they usually go home with, please can you let Mrs Barrett or their class teacher know. If they attend Stay and Play after school and are not attending one evening, please can you ensure that Mrs Maher knows that they will not be there.

Heaton Mersey Music Festival

The Heaton Mersey Music Festival was a huge success for Tithe Barn this term. The children were amazing in all their performances in Brass, strings and singing with Laurel Lane. If the school trophy cabinet is anything to go by, they were absolutely incredible. Well done to all the individual and group performers and thank you to the many parents and adults who helped out with this.

Top Gear Cards

Every now and then, schools are hit by a sudden craze such as Loom Bands and Football cards. These are on the whole great but sometimes can go missing and this then impacts upon learning time. Some children have been bringing in vast amounts of cards to swap and some of them have gone missing. We therefore ask that the children do not bring them into school any more as they are impacting upon different areas of school life.

After School Clubs

Judo restarts on Tuesday mornings after the Easter Holidays (Yrs 1 – 6). The new five week course will start at 8.00am on Tuesday 21 April and will run until Tuesday 19 May. The lessons stay at £20 per block with payment to be made online or cheque made payable to Tithe Barn Primary School.

Lacrosse continues Wednesdays after school but with a new coach. Sean Smith (who came over as part of a Lacrosse development programme with English Lacrosse) has returned to his college in America. Chris Peacock will take over the Club after Easter. Chris, who is also part of English Lacrosse, has already been teaching Lacrosse in the school so knows the children well. The cost stays at £4 per session (£20 for the half term).

After the Easter holidays there will be a new Athletics Club starting on Thursdays after school for Yrs 3 and Yr 4.  The club will be ran by our Year 4 Teacher Miss Heather Ainsworth until 4.30pm and will be free.  If you would like your child to attend this club – or indeed start any of the other clubs we are currently running – please fill in the Permission Slip attached and return it to school on the first day back after the Easter holidays.

Fundraising for Francis House Children’s Hospice

Lacrosse Team

Last week, the Lacrosse team went to the Greater Manchester Winter Youth Games to take part in the regional lacrosse competition. The team performed amazingly well and conceded the least amount of goals in the competition. They have therefore qualified for the national lacrosse finals in June. Well done everyone for your brilliant display.
