Please excuse our appearance

We are developing a new website, so over the next few weeks this website will not be functioning or look quite right. We apologise for any information that is not available or not displayed correctly. If you need to access or read something that is hard to find please contact Mrs Ceri Barett admin@tithebarn.stockport.sch.uk or call tel: 0161 432 4941

We should have our new improved website up and running soon so watch this space…

Welcome Back

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break; the children have all returned to school and are busy starting to learn about their new topics.

I would like to welcome our new member of teaching staff Mrs Denise Storey to Tithe Barn. Mrs Storey will be teaching Year 2 whilst Mrs Fraser is on maternity leave and is enjoying working with her new class.

As you may be aware, we are currently in the process of transferring to a new website and communication system. You will receive information regarding our new systems over the next few weeks. Hopefully we will have a smooth transition but please let us know if you have any difficulties.

Have a lovely weekend. Katherine Muncaster

Reel to Reel

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the recent screening of Lego Batman. It raised a fantastic £273.96.

Thanks again, to FOTB for organising a lovely evening. The next Reel to Reel screening will take place on Friday 7th July.

We had a fantastic day with our Eggstravaganza last term and raised and amazing £329.15. This will be shared between Cancer Research and School F und.

The children organised some amazing stalls and there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day

As a school we are committed to the Safeguarding of all our children. Our school policy can be found on our website. All staff have recently attended Safeguarding training and both Mr Blackburn and myself are trained Designated Leads for Safeguarding.

Holidays out of term time

I am writing to update you about the latest developments regarding the Education Penalty Notice system. Please be aware that-

Following the Supreme Court’s judgement in the case of Isle of Wight Council v Platt on the 6th April, it is now clear that EPNs can be issued in relation to unauthorised term time holidays/leave of absence even where a pupil’s attendance record is otherwise good.

In other words, the restriction we had to impose following the original High Court decision in May 2016, which limited EPNs to cases where attendance was below 88% for 12 months, can now be lifted and for instances of unauthorised leave of absence occurring after the 6th April 2017, we will be reverting to the rules in place prior to May 2016.

This means that:

  • EPNs can be issued in relation to any continuous period of unauthorised leave of absence of 5 days (10 sessions) or more
  • Schools can still authorise leave of absence for any purpose if satisfied that “exceptional circumstances” exist
  • Where schools use the system it should be used consistently and in relation to all cases of unauthorised term time holidays
  • The threshold for using the EPN system in cases of irregular attendance over a period of time (as opposed to “one off” instances of unauthorised leave of absence/term time holiday) will continue to be 10 sessions of unauthorised absence over a 3 month period.
