Hope Project

14th March 2018
The Hope Community Village is an orphanage located in Kerala India. It provides a safe and secure home to fifty-seven orphaned, abandoned or destitute children. During Summer term 2017 the school were approached by the local supporters of the charity, to see if we could help.
We were told that the children of the village were getting really good at football, and had aspirations to enter competitions. Unfortunately they could not afford the football boots needed to progress further. We agreed to help, and an appeal was put out to our children and parents for any outgrown and unwanted football boots to be donated to the children of the village.Of course, we rose to the challenge, and more than thirty serviceable and cleaned up boots were brought in. These were subsequently collected from us and transported to the children in India.
Mr Steve Redmond a representative of the charity wrote the following:-
I was delighted to be able to visit Tithe Barn School and to give my personal thanks to the children who had done so much to collect, clean and send us the football boots they had outgrown. The children at Hope Community Village were keen on football before, but running around in bare feet on a gravelly pitch did not inspire excellence at the sport. The football boots transformed the situation. Their new enthusiasm resulted in proper training, proper kit and, with the help of a local proper coach, in a high level of footballing skill. Our girls' team recently entered an under-15 schools' tournament in which they were successful in winning the final and coming home with a very impressive trophy. None of this would have been possible without the support of the Tithe Barn children and their parents. Thank you all once again and let's hope that we can explore further ways to support the Hope children, at the same time helping the school to foster the ethos of caring, at a global level, which was so obvious to me when I visited your lovely school.
